Yay! It's Restaurant Week! Currently it is Howard County's Restaurant Week(s) and Steve and I have been taking full advantage of the great deals many restaurants have to offer. Last night we went to Jordan's Steakhouse in Old Ellicott City, today we went to lunch at the Elkridge Furnace Inn, and next week we're going to dinner at AIDA Bistro and Wine Bar.

At Jordan's, I got fried calamari with garlic aioli for my first course, baby beat with goat cheese salad as the second course, and lobster risotto for the third course. Steve got tenderloin carpaccio for his first course, tomato mozzarella salad for the second, and grilled skirt steak for the third. We both got wine flights, I the whites and he the reds.

The portions were a bit smaller than I had imagined, but they were all delicious, however the lobster in the lobster risotto was very finely chopped so I missed the flavor of lobster a bit and the saffron risotto lacked a bit in flavor, nothing some fresh cracked pepper and salt couldn't save though. The table we sat at had a cushion-y type chair that I sat in and it had two pillows on it. I ended up having to sit on both pillows so I could reach the table haha. Thursdays at Jordan's there is live jazz so it was really cool to eat good food, drink good wine, and listen to jazz :)

Elkridge Furnace Inn is such a lovely place! I got roasted eggplant and tomato soup, chicken ventura which was chicken with artichoke, peppers, sundried tomato, and olive oil over angel hair pasta, and blueberry kuchen for dessert. Steve got fried calamari, tenderloin dijonaise with creamy polenta and green beans, and derby pie for dessert.

(Sorry about the quality of the pics, I took them with my Blackberry. Steve was embarassed that I didn't turn the flash off...)

We're making plans for Baltimore Restaurant Week... My top three picks are Sotto Sopra, The Oceanaire, & Meli.

This is a hodge-podge of posts. I don't know what I've been so busy with, but I haven't had a chance to really post since coming back from vacation. Anyway, here are some pics of what I've been up to and a recipe for the guacamole Steve made!

I've got my sous chefs helping me with my famous Strawberry Pies for my mom's birthday.

Found this at the Harris Teeter and you know I had to try it! It tasted just like a cupcake!

This is my brother with about 5 scoops of ice cream and a mountain of whipped cream.

My other brother showing off his bacon cheeseburger on our Build-A-Burger night.

My dad made breakfast one morning and Steve came up with Maryland style grits (american cheese and Old Bay), yum!

Steve's guacamole = mmm.

Fishy cupcakes I made and decorated!

Proscuitto and melon Steve made me for lunch.

Parasailing on the Currituck Sound.

Fish Tacos from Donkey Hotays, sogood!

Chocolate World.

Huge cupcakes from the Hershey Bake Shop in Chocolate World.

Here's a little clip from the DMB concert I went to in Hershey, PA.

Steve's Grilled Corn Guacamole
(Adapted from Bobby Flay's Charred Corn Guacamole)

2 ears of corn, grilled in the husk
2 tbsp olive oil
Salt and pepper to taste
2 ripe avocados, pitted and diced
1 Serrano chile, finely diced
1 medium red onion, finely diced
1 lime, juiced
1/4 cup fresh cilantro, chopped

1. Remove the corn from the husk and remove all of the silk. Cut the corn kernels from the cob.
2. In a medium size bowl, combine the corn, avocados, oil, chile, onion, cilantro, and lime juice. Mix together until all ingredients are incorporated. Add salt and pepper to taste.
3. Serve with tortilla chips or as a great topping for burgers, fajitas, tacos, or sandwiches!

Back from a lovely vacation, Mom didn't feel much like cooking dinner the past couple of days so tonight we went to Bahama Breeze for dinner. I went to a neighbor's grad party this afternoon so I wasn't very hungry... Here I am eating Chicken Tortilla Soup and a Breeze Salad, yum!

This post is dedicated to one of my very best friends from college, Jen. She got married last Saturday in Gettysburg. I'm honored that I was chosen to be a bridesmaid. Jen looked beautiful and Matt, her husband looked handsome, the weather was perfect, plenty of friends and family were surrounding the happy couple, and everyone was having a great time.
