Snow Day

When I came home yesterday, my car spun around turning into the development and when I woke up at 6 this morning, our street hadn't yet been plowed so I decided to stay home today. As I type this, I can hear the snow plow going around the neighborhood for the first time today...

I took advantage of the snow day to finish a project for the bedroom. You can follow me on Pinterest to see my pinspiration! Also pictured is a candle by the Waxy Dachshund shop on Etsy.

Cooper has been refusing to do his business outside, but would rather bound around in the snow instead. Stubborn dachshunds!

Nurse Informaticist, Analyst, Trainer, or All of the Above?

I can't help but get a little annoyed when people ask me about my job. First of all, it is kinda hard to describe to those who have no background in healthcare and to be honest I'm a little confused myself! My title is Computer Trainer & Analyst, but I also build electronic nursing and doctors' order sets, perform audits, train new employees on our EMR.

Despite the confusing title, the bottom line is that I am still a nurse. Some people might think that my job isn't doing real nursing. Sigh. Even though I am no longer at the bedside, I still use important nursing skills like effective communication, task management, critical thinking, etc. I still need my nursing background and years of experience to do my job well. I read this great article via Nurse.com about the demand for informatics nurses. I also think it does a good job of describing what my job entails and its importance in healthcare and in nursing.
